Can someone help me explain John F. Kennedy and his involvement in the Vietnam war. maybe over AIM if you have time?

JFK created the Green Berets (US Army Special Forces) and the SEALS (US Navy former UDT) in 1961/1962. Kennedy "wanted" to fight a special war with special men. Which would've been the wise way to operate. But he was assassinated in '63. The traditionalist WWII Generals took over...and Vietnam escalated into a WWII war all over again.
