Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease. Urinary tract infections (UTI) are not. It is possible to have both a UTI and Chlamydia, but one does not cause the other. There is no other way to get Chlamydia except through sexual contact; UTIs, on the other hand, can even be seen in young kids.

Chlamydia is caused by bacteria called Chlamydia trachomatis, that is spread by oral, anal, or vaginal sex; genital-genital contact; sharing sex toys; or birth to a woman with chlamydia.

Chlamydia can infect the urethra, which is part of the urinary tract. It can cause urinary pain or blood in your urine. However, we don't usually call chlamydia a UTI. In the US, at least, UTI is meant to signify infections of the urinary tract that are not typically spread by sex.

Chlamydia can infect the urethra, which is part of the urinary system. Strictly speaking, then, it can cause a urinary tract infection. Usually, however, health care providers and lay people use the term "UTI" to refer to infections with pathogens that are not sexually transmitted.

If left untreated, chlamydia infection can cause pelvic inflammatory disease which can lead to damage of the fallopian tubes (the tubes connecting the ovaries to the uterus) or even cause infertility (the inability to have children). Untreated chlamydia infection could also increase the risk of ectopic pregnancy (when the fertilized egg implants and develops outside the uterus.) Furthermore, chlamydia may cause premature births (giving birth too early) and the infection can be passed along from the mother to her child during childbirth, causing an eye infection, blindness, or pneumonia in the newborn.

As for treatment of chlamydia infection, antibiotics are the most common but it will cause drug resistance and can be easily recurrent. Herbal medicine like Fuyan Pill maybe a better option compared with antibiotics, because it is made from Chinese herbs without any side effects and drug resistance.

While both UTI and chlamydia can cause painful urination and other urinary symptoms, a UTI caused by typical UTI pathogens does not turn into chlamydia. Get tested for both with your health care provider to make sure you're getting the correct diagnosis and treatment.

Urinary tract infections like cystitis often cause pain with urination. Chlamydia can cause pain with urination as well. Some people who think they have a bladder infection (cystitis) actually have a chlamydia infection. Chlamydia can infect the urethra and cause painful urination. The infection doesn't normally ascend to the bladder.

Yes. Men get chlamydia, too. That can cause a female sex partner to get chlamydia. There is no other urinary tract infection in men that will cause a woman to get chlamydia.

Most people with chlamydia have no symptoms, but in those with symptoms, they may have painful urination, which is the most common symptom of UTIs.

Chlamydia is the number one sexually transmitted disease in the United States. Chlamydia is caused by the bacterium, Chlamydia trachomatis, which can damage a woman's reproductive organs. Chlamydia also can cause discharge from the penis of an infected man.
