Better known, at least in the US, was John Hanson from Maryland (1721-1783).
He was of English ancestry . He was a wealthy planter , married Jane Contee and they had eight children. He was elected president of the first Continental Congress in 1781 after the Articles of Confederation was ratified . He presided over the meeting of the Congress but was not at all like the president of the United States.
