Clutch safety switch
Your clutch is not disengaging.
sounds like one of the safety switches is not operating correctly. there is one under the seat and one on the clutch/brake.
the clutch has to be pushed in to start. there is a switch under the dash probably knocked it out of position. while changing cable.
Is it a 5 speed? If so check the clutch pedal. You have to press the clutch to start the car. The button the clutch pedal actually presses could be bad. You can just splice the wires together so the car thinks the button is always pressed or just buy a new button.
My 91 did the same thing and continued to get worst to point where you can't even get it in gear now with the engine running. If you try to start it in gear the car starts to move. Two things, clutch needs adjusting or as in my case the clutch slave cylinder is worn out. Is the clutch pedal real mushy? That wouuld indicate the slave cylinder is bad. It is located on the driver side firewall and looks like a small brake cylinder.
The starter solenoid/relay switch is going bad. Eventually, it will just click and not start.
Probably not, many cars have a switch on the clutch that allows you to start it while in gear.
it starts with 3 million and breaks down to even more.
Most questions start with w because usually a question starts with why, who, when, or where. Even your question starts with W, silly!
After you engage a gear and let out the clutch and accelerate the car wont move faster but the RPM's will move up. Also in some rare instances when a clutch disk material separates from the disk its self you wont be able to start the car or even change gears.
