To remove the radio on a Chevy Caprice, pull of the volume and tuner knobs. Loosen the nut holding the radio in on each spindle. Then disconnect the wires on the back of the radio and pull out by pushing it backwards and reach up under the dash to retrieve it.

you need to take the dash apart first. Unscrew the radio and unplug it. Be sure you have the correct wiring harness for the car and tie in the wires to the new stereo. Do not cut the wires on the old head unit-it just causes a bigger headache. To do the job right on installing the new radio, make sure to use female to female connectors and a crimper. You don't want exposed wires touching each other-that can be dangerous.

start by taking out the ash tray and ash tray bracket and glove box compartment after removing ash tray bracket lie on seat with head under dash were the ashtray was. Look in there at the back of the radio there is a black nut about 1 inch long. Remove it. Now go the glove compartment you will see a black cable going to your hot cold heater flap, take pliers to the round clip and pull down then there are a few screws under the radio and above the heater controls, the radio is connected to the heater control so remove the whole unit. The cable you removed from the heater will come out with it, you have to do some cutting sere the old radio was to put an after market one in but it isn't too bad it sounds like a lot but it really isn't too bad good luck

The radio is bolted in behind your dashboard face. You'll have to remove the whole assembly.

First remove the plastic shroud below the steering wheel (just screws out). Then carefully remove the numerous screws from the dashboard face. You'll have to tilt the steering wheel to get at all of them. The whole driver side and center section is one unit. It's clipped in by stamped steel retaining clips. You will have to pop them all off. Be careful not to break the plastic. You will also need to unscrew the dash piece that sits above the glove box (open the glove box to get to it. The whole thing should take you about 30 minutes to get done the first time. It gets easier if you do it repeatedly.

The radio is held in by 1 or 2 screw type bolts. There is a plastic base that the radio sits on. This whole assembly comes out and the plastic piece detaches from the radio in the back. The plugs aren't too difficult to figure out.

Installation is the reverse of the above instructions.

I just did this today actually, Heres how ya do it.

1. Remove the bolts holding the kick panels on (they under the steering wheel at about knee height. You must removeall the bolts and remove all of the lower plastic pieces.

2. Next, there is a metal plate justunder the steeringwheel held on by 4 bolts, remove it.

2. Next, you have to remove the ENTIRE front part of the dash and trim around the radio and speedometer.. This is one giant piece extending from just left of the glove box all the way to the left of the steering wheel. You remove this huge piece by first locating all the bolts holding it on and unscrewing them. Ones the bolts are undone, the dash shouldbe prett loose, but its a PAIN to remove it. you have to pull forward and then up over the steering wheel. The hard part is getting it aroudn the steering wheel and shifter.

4. Remove the three bolts aroudn the stereo and slide it out.

Hop that Helps
