DALIAN MEDICAL UNIVERSITY is recognised by WHO, and Chinese Medical Council only.It is going to be recognised by Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC).
21 Aug 2010:
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari's personal physician, Dr Asim Hussain, who also heads the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC), says Pakistani medical graduates from China would have to pass the National Equivalence Board (NEB) examination to get permission for practice in Pakistan.
"I am very clear that no Pakistani medical graduate, who had studied in a non-English speaking country, should be permitted to practise unless he or she clears the NEB, conducted by the University of Health Services UHS," Dr Asim, Vice President of the PMDC, who is accompanying the president in his foreign tour, told The News.
He said that the PMDC had now outsourced the NEB test. When previously the PMDC used to conduct this examination, all those who appeared in it were declared successful, he said. But when the UHS had been assigned this job by the PMDC, only 10 percent candidates could pass the test, he said.
"I want to see where we are wrong because the difference between the results of the PMDC and UHS is too wide," Dr Asim said and added that there was a proposal that the conduct of the NEB examination should be rotated among different public universities of Pakistan every year.
To a question, he said that the Federal Health Ministry had recommended to the PMDC to recognize the degrees of the two Chinese medical universities. "The proposal is under consideration," he said.
China's Dalian Medical University and Zhengzhou Medical University have requested recognition of their degrees. Dalian University ranks first among 30 such institutions, which are authorized to enroll foreign students for MBBS course in English by the Chinese Education Ministry. Currently, nearly 400 Pakistani students are doing MBBS in this university.
Zhengzhou University houses more than 100 Pakistani students with some 400 students already graduated. Pakistan's Health Ministry and PMDC recognized the degrees of seven Chinese medical universities last year. They included Peking Union Medical College, Beijing Medical University, Shanghai Medical University, Shanghai Second Medical University, School of Stomatology in Shanghai Second Medical University, School of Medicine in Xian Jiatong University and Xinjiang Medical University.
An increasing number of Pakistani students are getting enlisted in the Chinese universities. Currently, there are more than 5,000 Pakistani students in various Chinese universities. President Asif Ali Zardari wants this number to cross 10,000. The Pakistan Embassy in China is pushing for the recognition of the degrees of China's Dalian Medical University and Zhengzhou Medical University at an early date, says an official.
Currently No University is recognized by PMDC.
