How do you wire an air compressor?

Answer for USA, Canada and countries running a 60 Hz supply service. This is for a single phase air compressor whose magnetic contactor's coil voltage is the same as the supply line voltage. Take a wire from one of the line terminals L1 to one side of the contactor coil. Take another wire from the second line terminal L2 and put it to one side of a N.C. contact on the magnetic contactor's overload block. From the other side of the N.C. contact on the O/L block take a wire to the N.C. terminal on the pressure switch. From the other side of the N.C. contact on the pressure switch terminal connect the wire to the other side of the magnetic contactor's coil.As always, if you are in doubt about what to do, the best advice anyone should give you is to call a licensed electrician to advise what work is needed. Before you do any work yourself,on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances, always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOBSAFELY AND COMPETENTLYREFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.

Why do you balance single phase loads across a 3-phase supply system?

On a Delta 3-phase you connect the single phase loads between pairs of the 3-phases. Warning both sides of these loads will be hot! You may want to use 3 isolation transformers so that the real loads have a neutral line.On Y 3-phase you connect the single phase loads between one of the 3-phases and neutral. In each case to balance the loads, try to put similar loads on each phase (or pair of phases).

How do you wire a three phase motor with two speed to a three phase power supply lead numbers not specified?

There are many types of winding on a two speed three phase motor. The number of wires from the motor should have been stated. This is a guess that the motor is a six lead. The diagram is for a six lead out two speed, one winding, single voltage constant horsepower motor.See sources and related link below

Why is a three phase four wire distribution system used?

A three phase four wire system allows for two voltages from a single three phase transformer. The transformer configuration is a wye or star connection. It is used in commercial and industrial applications. Apartment buildings are now starting to use a three phase four wire service distribution system. Some wye connection voltages are 120/208 volts, 480/277, and 600/347. The lower voltage is derived from the sq root of 3 divided into the three phase voltage.

What are the main parts of three phase motor?

Wire, bearings, rotor and stator.

How do you wire 3 phase power to 1 phase power diagram?

In an emergency and for a short period of time you can single phase a three phase motor but the motor will be loud, have terrible power characteristics and depending upon the use will burn up rather quickly. You should never try to run this in other than a life threatening emergency situation, the motors are not designed for it. Normally you don't. <<>> A three phase motor will not start on single phase. If the motor was started on three phase and loses a phase, it will stay running at a lower percentage of efficiency. Now a days the motor protection will not let a three phase motor run in a single phasing condition. All three phase legs of the motor are monitored and in a single phase condition the other two legs of the motor draw a higher current. This higher current is sensed by the motor's overload heaters in the motor's contactor and take the motor off line by opening the motor contactor. Now to the question, any two legs of a three phase system in electrical terms is known as single phase. As long as the three phase voltage matches the voltage needed in the single phase power diagram it can be connected to operate single phase equipment.

How many wires come in from the weather head?

If single phase - 2 wire service > two wires If single phase - 3 wire service > three wires If three phase - 3 wire service > three wires If three phase - 4 wire service > four wires US residential service is usually single phase 3 wire service: Two hots and neutral.

Can you wire up a 240 volt single phase water heater to 277 volt single phase?

no

Can you put one phase of a three phase ditribution board through a contactor so that the other phases stay on?

Yes, but you must have your neutral wire to form a return path for your current.

What is the difference between single phase circuit and tree phase circuit?

single phase have 2 wire treephase have 3, and 4 wires

How do you wire contactor for two light circuits through a time clock?

How do you wire a time clock with a contactor with a override switch

How many single phase can you run on a 100amp 3 phase?

You can divide a three phase service into (3) single phase circuits providing you have a 4th neutral wire.

How do you wire up a 208v single phase motor with micro switch?

if you are using the pressure switch to control a 3phase pump chances are it already has a magnetic starter and a single pole control circuit i have seen small 3phase air compressors with the contacts driven right off the diaphragm bigger ones usually have 110 volt controls i would be concerned about the current rating of the switch if you are trying to switch the motor directly there are many single phase compressors that run directly from the pressure switch

How do you wire up a three phase coil contactor from scratch running it through a stop start switch?

This is pretty 'straightforward'. Turning the contactor on or off is accomplished via a single-wire control signal (piece of wire). Its the contacts on the device that will have 3 sets of contacts, that is, 3 (isolated from each other) screw terminals coming from the LINE side (hot), and 3 terminals for the LOAD thereby supplying power to a motor, fan, pump, heater, lights, etc.

What will happen if you use phase to phase voltage for a single phase device?

Phase to phase, two wire is classed as single phase. If the voltage from the phase to phase match the device's operating voltage, then connecting the device will allow it to operate.

How do you wire a single phase contactor controlled by a pir in a lighting circuit?

Relatively simple. There are two power contacts, you wire the two wires for the line you want to interrupt or connect to these contacts. this is for the simplest type, SPST, one set of contacts to switch a power line on when the control signal is on. There are more complicated contactors with multiple sets of contacts. There are two connections for the control circuit which are typically low voltage AC or DC. Connect these to the control signal, ie, the signal you will use to turn the contactor on or off.
