Yes. Italy surrendered to the Allies, switched to their side, and declared war on Germany on September 8, 1943. Germany surrendered on May 8, 1945, a little over a year and a half later.

An interesting side quirk to this is that later in September 1943, northern Italy was reformed into a fascist country ruled by Mussolini with help from the German military. This new country, the Italian Social Republic, continued fighting against the Allies (including Italy) until it too surrendered on May 2, 1945. So both Italian countries surrendered before Germany did.

No it did not. Italy surrendered in 1943 and switched sides, joining the Allies. However, about half of Italy was controlled by Germany and made into a new country. This new country continued fighting (although it was mostly German troops doing the fighting) until it too surrendered in 1945 just before Germany did as well.

September 8 1943, Italy appointed Prime Minister (a General called Badoglio) signed the surrender on orders of the king and Mussolini was arrested. Later he was executed by Italian Partisans along with his mistress, Clara Petacci, and some close associates.

When and where did US drop the atomic bombs on Japan?

"Little Boy" the first atomic bomb used in warfare was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6th, and "Fat Man" the second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan on August 9th. Although Japan was already ready to surrender before the atom bombs were dropped, they did not surrender when the first bomb was dropped, which caused the US to drop the second one. After the second atomic bomb was dropped, Imperial Japan surrendered 5 days later, and the surrender ceremony was September 2nd, which also ended World War 2.

What did the America people know before the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

The nuclear was a secret before the bombs hit the targets.

Was the atomic bomb nessary?

If necessary, means ending the War (WWII), then yes. There are "reports" that the Japanese were going to surrender, before the bombs were dropped, but the Japanese had been known to use delaying tactics to their advantage. In any case, the dropping of the bombs, ended the war and in doing so, saved countless additional lives. If the Japanese had surrendered when requested, the bombs would not have been dropped.

When was the first atomic bomb dropped and why?

After the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor, the Allies bombed Japanese cities including Tokyo. In 1943, the Allies won the Battle of Midway. Shortly after joining WWII (1942) the US started a top secret project known as the Manhattan Project. Led by American scientist J. Oppenheimer, the team worked for 3 years to build an atomic bomb. After officials successfully tested the bomb, they told the Japanese to surrender, or they would face destruction. The Japanese refused to give in. On August 6, 1945, The B-29 bomber 'Enola Gay' dropped an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima. They still didn't surrender so another atomic bomb was dropped. On August 14, Japan surrendered. Long story short, the Japanese wouldn't surrender so they dropped the atomic bomb. The Japanese still didn't surrender so they dropped another atomic bomb killing more people and they finally surrendered on August 14.

Why did Japan surrender after the atom bombs?

No one. The allies dropped an a-bomb on Hiroshima, and the Japanese did not surrender. Then they dropped a bomb on Nagasaki, and still the Japanese, controlled by their Army did not surrender; however, a bit later, more reasonable people in Japan caused them to surrender.

Where did the US drop the atomic bomb in ww1?

It didn't. Wrong war. It wasn't invented until WWII.In WW2 however the atomic bomb was dropped on two cities from japan; first on Hiroshima, then a second dropped on Nagasaki when japan didn't surrender after the first atomic bomb.Japan was given no opportunity to surrender after the first atomic bomb. Truman's order to use the atomic bomb authorized use as they became available. The only reason Japan had a chance to surrender after the second and before the third atomic bomb was the third was still being prepared and crated for shipment at Los Alamos. Had Japan not surrendered the third atomic bomb would have left San Francisco on a B-29 on August 18 and probably been dropped between August 25 to August 28.There were another 20 more atomic bombs scheduled for production & delivery on Japan from September through December of 1945.

Why did america dropped an atomic bomb on japan instead of germany?

The Trinity Test in July 1945 was a preliminary test before actual use of the first atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. The war in Europe with the Germans ended on May 8, 1945, almost two months prior to this test. So it was not a probability.

Why did the Americans hit japan not Germany?

The Americans attacked both countries during the War. In regards to the atomic bomb; the German government was defeated before the bomb was finished being made. Japan refused to surrender, so the bomb was dropped.

Would Japan have taken over the world if the US had not the dropped the atomic bombs?

No, Japan was already essentially defeated before the atomic bombs were dropped but their Samurai military culture would not permit them to surrender. However it would have required invasion of the main islands of Japan by both the US and the USSR and a minimum of another year of fighting, with the loss of more than a million Japanese (mostly civilian), more than a million US and USSR troops before Japan could have been forced to surrender. Japan actually had plans for keeping the war going for as long as 10 more years before surrendering, but they would have lost more than 90% of their prewar population (including Japanese residing in occupied Chinese territory before the war). The Japanese government did know before the atomic bombs were dropped that the military situation was ultimately hopeless and they would eventually be forced to surrender, they just hoped to delay this humiliation as long as possible.
