Yes, Master Chief and Cortana fled from Reach when it was falling and ended up from slipspace near the First Halo. And so begins Halo 1..

Noble 6 is not Master Chief. He/she was a Spartan II fighting on planet Reach when it fell. Master Chief was not on reach at that time.
