depends on that departments requirements to join, some you only have to have a high school diploma, but if you dont go to college chances are you wont rank.

Not at all. There are a lot of students that go straight to university from high school and don't need to get into that "transition" period that colleges offer. Often a college doesn't have the degree or program that a student is interested in and needs (or wants) to get into university right away. There are helpful programs and classes in university that a student can take to help ease the transition from being babied in high school to being "set out to dry" in university.
