Yes and no. On his mother's side of the family, his grandfather (who helped to raise him) was a World War II veteran, and his grandmother worked in a defense plant during the war. On the other hand, if you are asking whether he came from a family that remained in the military, his grandparents did not. After the war ended, they went into civilian industries. And his mother was a college professor-- she never served in the military.
On his father's side of the family, he barely knew his dad, who was from Kenya and does not seem to have served in the military either. As for Mr. Obama himself, he was just a baby when the Vietnam War was going on, and by the time he was a teenager, the war and the military draft had both ended, which is why he did not serve.
When he was elected President, Barack Obama was a resident of Chicago, IL.
Barack means 'blessing'. Barack is a common name in Kenya and Tanzania.
By being elected.
He was a student.
The US, if he weren't, he wouldn't be allowed as a President

Barack Obama's father, Barack Obama, Sr., was not a preacher. In fact, he was born into a Muslim family, but he left that faith and became an atheist. Obama's father was an economist, and the confusion may come from the idea that when his father returned to Kenya, he was hired by an oil company, where he served as an economist in the Ministry of Transport; however, the word "ministry" is simply a British term for a department in the government, and did not pertain to anything religious.
yes because i said so
President Barack Obama ...
Barack Obama's father was Kenyan.
Mitt Romney comes from a political family, and he is the one whose father (George) was a Michigan governor. Mr. Obama does not come from a political family. His mother was an anthropologist and his biological father was an economist.
Barack Obama is of partially Irish and partially Kenyan ancestry; no one is denying this.
