Every "neutral" (uncharged, non-ionized) atom has the same number of electrons as protons, i.e. at least one in the case of hydrogen. Only ionized atoms can have no electrons, as positive ions.

It depends on the atomic number. If the atomic number is 5 it has five protons neutrons and electrons. The electrons make up the shells so the first shell is two electrons then the second 8 but there is only five so its an unstable atom.

I think an atom can have two shells but an atom can have one shell as well but I'm not really sure. I don't know.

Atoms with 1 or 2 electrons on their valence level tend to gain?

more electrons because all atoms want to be like noble gases and will either give or take electrons to obtain 8 electrons so atoms with either 1 or 2 electrons would wither give off 1 or 2 electrons depending on how many then had

Covalent bonding of one atom to another is the result of?

It is formed by a pair of electrons shared between 2 atoms. the nucleus of the atoms attract each other, and 2 atoms share a pair of electrons. This is a single covalent bond. In a double covalent bond, 2 pairs of electrons are shared between 2 atoms. 3 pairs are shared in triple bonds.

What is the charge of Cr in Cr2O72?

Since oxygen atoms can only accept two electrons, the balance of charges for the overall neutral molecule suggests that the two chromium atoms must each have donated half of the electrons to the oxygen atoms. Therefore, the total number of electrons required for all three oxygen atoms to reach a noble gas configuration is 3 atoms*2 electrons/atom=6 electrons Dividing this up between the two chromium atoms: 6 electrons/2 atoms=3 electrons/atom Therefore, each chromium atom bears a positive charge (since it donated electrons) of 3+.

Describe the general location of electrons in a covalent bond?

The general location of electrons in a covalent bond is that electrons are shared in pairs between 2 atoms. If 2 electrons pairs are shared, 4 electrons are shared in all. They lie between the two nuclei of the bonding atoms. The shared electrons are typically near the middle of the bond between the 2 atoms, in a covalent bond. They may be slightly closer to 1 atom or the other, due to small differences in electronegativity.

When 2 atoms share electrons what is that called?

They share electrons to form a chemical bond.

What atoms tend to gain two electrons to form a 2- anion?

se and sometimes gain electrons. Atoms with eight valence electrons do not easily lose electrons

How many electrons are associated with a single covalent bond between two atoms?

A single covalent bond between two atoms has 2 electrons.

How where atoms discovered to be made of electrons?

1. Atoms are made from the atomic nucleus (protons plus neutrons) and electrons.2. For the discovery of electrons is credited J. J. Thomson in 1897.

How many electrons do silicon atoms have?

14 electrons. 2 electrons in the first shell, 8 electrons in second shell, and 4 electrons in the valence shell.

How many electrons does calcium have in the second energy level?

Calcium atoms have 8 electrons in the second energy level. However, they are not the valence electrons. The outermost electrons in a calcium atom in the ground state are 2 4s electrons. So calcium atoms in the ground state have 2 valence electrons in the fourth energy level.

How does the number of separate electrons shown for the group 2 metal atoms compare to the number of atoms?

The number of electrons in a neutral atom is equal to the atomic number.

How many atoms does H²o have?

A hydrogen molecule has 2 atoms covalently bonded together. Hydrogen has 1 proton and 1 electron. It needs 2 electrons to be stable; to have the 1s orbital full; so 2 atoms of Hydrogen bond together sharing 2 electrons andboth atoms are stable.
