Obviously that is a massively controversial subject. The short answer is "Because the majority of people in the six counties known as Northern Ireland consider themselves as British"
It was Irish (mostly Ulster) Unionists in the late 1800's who with their allies in the British Conservative party who consistantly objected to the idea of Irish home rule, the idea of a separate homeland for the Protestant Ulstermen seemed like the only compromise, and it was the only thing that nobody wanted, not the British government, not Irish nationalists and not Ulster Loyalists.
The Republic of Ireland is an entirely independent country from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is on the island of Ireland, as is the Republic of Ireland. Great Britain is the island on which England, Scotland, and Wales are found. Wales, England, and Scotland are all independent countries, but are all a part of the political union of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
No. Northern Ireland is a part of the United Kingdom.
However, around 40% of the population are nationalist (pro-Irish) and believe that Northern Ireland should be politically united with the Republic of Ireland.
As for where Northern Ireland "belongs", it "belongs" exactly where it is!
Northern Ireland is not part of Britain. It is on the island of Ireland, while Britain is a separate island containing England, Wales and Scotland. Northern Ireland is part of what is called the United Kingdom, which includes Britain and Northern Ireland. That is as a result of a treaty in 1922, which saw most of Ireland becoming independent and what then became known as Northern Ireland staying in the United Kingdom.
No it should not. Britain, often called Great Britain, is and island consisting of England, Scotland and Wales. To the west of it is the island of Ireland, which consists of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Along with Great Britain, Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom.
Answer The six counties of Northern Ireland are a part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Northern is part of the UK but not part of Great Britain.
Only North Ireland. The Irish Free State (Southern Ireland) won it's Independence in 1922.
The British Empire - yes
Irish navvies
Eire, or the The Republic of Ireland, had their independence from the British Empire ratified in January 1922 followed by Egypt in February 1922.
The British Commonwealth
there are lots and lots and lots of countries that belong to the British empire i cant explain all of them sorry/
This is because the majory of people living in it known as unionist want to remain part of the UK. At one stage the whole island of Ireland was part of the Great Britain because the king at the time took control. As time went by only the nothern end of this island wanted to remain part of Great Britain called Ulster.
