Duration of antibiotic therapy in case of typhoid fever is?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

hi...it depends on the severity of the infection. i am saying this as a person who was infected with typhoid around November 2006 and have not yet recovered completely. Typhoid fever basically drains your body of all the nutrients so the likely aftereffects on ur body will be fatigue and hair loss. i know it is demoralising to hear this but it takes upto an year to recover. recovery basically depends on your diet or rather replacing all the lost nutrients. it is most advisable to take a high carb diet and eat small meals atleast 5-6 times a day. this will rapidly speed up the recovery process. also ask ur doctor/dietician to prescribe certain vitamin supplements as those are the first things to get depleted when the fever hits. be extremely careful not to overdose on it though. some vitamins such as Vit.A and Vit.E have an upper limit of dosage (you should not take more than a certain amount of it or they might be toxic).

So mainly complete recovery should take about 2 years but it depends from person to person and you can DEFINITELY speed up the recovery process by following a high carb diet and vitamin supplementation. p.s. you might also face severe depression (i know what I'm talkin about) but know that one day life will be rosy again as these aftereffects are in no way permanent. Wish you luck. God bless. Take care.

You tend to avoid fruits in typhoid fever. In all other fevers, you recommend the fruits. Fruit juice can be given. Roughage from the raw fruit can theoretically create problems in typhoid patients. No such controlled studies are conducted probably, in typhoid fever patients.

What was the specific reason the typhoid fever called the typhoid fever?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No. Typhus is a group of diseases caused by the parasitic bacteria "Rickettsia", which can exist only within living cells. It is commonly spread by lice and fleas on rats. (In areas with limited hygenic facilities, Epidemic Typhus is spread by the human body louse.) Typhoid fever (also known as Enteric fever) is caused by "Salmonella" bacteria when they are spread through the body by the white blood cells that attempted to destroy them.

Was typhoid contagious in World War 1?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Not on its own. Trench fever is caused by lice, and lice (which are tiny blood-sucking insects) thrive in the unsanitary conditions of trenches. So it doesn't pass from person to person like a cold or a flu; it passes by the insects biting them.

How did Abigail Adams get typhoid fever?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Typhus seems to have mutated into a human pathogen upon the advent of white urban centers early in European history. Disease immunities are typically much greater in southern or tropical races and the Typhus progenitor, whatever it was, could not make the "jump." Northern europeans entered the struggle against the world's dread pathogens latest, and have suffered the worst in the past 2-3 millennia. Once Typhus was establshed as a human pathogen, it raged around the world to populations untested by the new strain. Europeans gave Typhus its deadly boost in the same way Smallpox went to Asia as a nasty nuisance, and came back to (southern) Europe through Egypt as a deadly plague. The Vatican was posited with the quandary of pathogenesis in densified populations (e.e., "ruled" populations) by China, ca. 1200, as one of its sarcastic gifts, and investigated the possible historical truth of such claims. This theory is supported by historical records of ancient Old World civilizations. Eventually, the gifts" were posited to the Protestants, and after a while the Dutch took up the study ca. 1600 in their quest for national legitimacy, and founded an international banking system based on personal collateralization.

Abigail Adams was an egalitarian political lobbyist. She angered the Illuminati and was killed for it like many others who were "of the people." And it's all true.

That is a good question. You have ulcers in your intestine. It takes at least three weeks to heal the same. So minimum three rest is advised to the patient. But the child can not be confined to house, once he becomes alright and you wonder if some other child will strike him in the abdomen and the ulcers will bleed.

What happens to your body when you get typhoid?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Once the bacterium is ingested it quickly multiplies within the stomach, liver or gallbladder and finally enters the blood stream causing symptoms like fever (usually between 1030F- 1040F), rashes (flat, rose-coloured spots), vomiting, loss of appetite, headaches, general fatigue. In severe cases one may suffer from intestinal perforations or internal bleeding, diarrhoea or constipation.

One of the characteristic symptoms of typhoid is a 'step ladder fever'. This means that the fever gradually fluctuates between very high and low fever for a short period of time, till it peaks at 1030F - 1040F. In patients without any complications the condition subsides in about three to four weeks after its onset. In about 10% of people, the condition relapses after about one week of convalescence.

You have to maintain the sanitation to the level, that was achieved by our ancestors from western countries by later half of nineteenth century. You have to maintain good personal hygiene. This will go long way to prevent all the diseases, that are transmitted by fecal/oral route including typhoid fever. You do not know how many more centuries, you will take to achieve the same in developing countries.

What should you eat in typhoid fever after 20 days?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Patient generally does not like to eat food, when ill. Only the mother can feed the baby at such a critical period. All type of soft and nutritious food is to be offered to the baby. Nothing hard, specially the seeds to be given to the patient. Once the patient recovers from the fever, his appetite dramatically increases. Then you have to withheld many food items. He has got those ulcers in his intestine, waiting to bleed with slight insult. So for next two to three weeks no hard food in given to the patient.

Why typhoid fever have relative bradycardia?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Thank you very much for the chance of answering this question.

As is already stated in text books like Harrisons, typhoid fever is caused by a bacteria known as salmonella typhi. This organism is gram negative and motile.

Most importantly the bacteria produce a powerful endotoxin responsible for the clinical manifestations.the endotoxin produce myocarditis as a clinical feature.when the cardiac muscle is inflamed by the toxin, autorythmic cells cannot escape inflammation.because SA node and other related structures determine the pace of the heart, the cause of relative bradycardia is inflammation of the myocardium with the autorythmic cells .
