I can only tell you about the origins of the English language. English is comprised of three languages: Anglo-Saxon, French, and Latin. English has several basic roots, including those mentioned above but also including Spanish and several Native American languages and dialects but, it was and is influenced by every other language of the world. The English language borrows from every language by incorporating elements of the different languages or assimilating parts of or whole words from the mother tongues. French shares many of the same roots as English but they took divergent routes to become what they are today. Spanish like Italian and the other Latin languages were influenced most heavily by...you guessed it...Latin. German evolved primarily from Anglo-Saxon and the languages and dialtects of the Germanic tribes. Latin was the written language of the Roman Empire. Keep in mind that it was not generally spoken until the English adopted it as the intellectual tongue in the 16th and 17th centuries. Latin as a language is rooted primarily in Etruscan the founding tribe of the village of Rome which became the capital of the Roman Empire. This is all very simplified; my apologies However, linguistics and the history of such is a complex subject and this venue does not permit a complete explanation.
