I am donating one of my kidneys to a cousin in September 2008. I am 26 years old and am not done having children. I currently have a beautiful 9 month old daughter and can't wait to give her siblings but my cousins health took a turn and surgery has been set. My future childrens lives can wait, he can not. I am mentally having a hard time with the possibility I may never be pregnant again and would love someone to email me if they have had a baby on one kidney... Thanks Sarah

My mom lost function in her right kidney due to Tuberculosis over 10 years ago (only 4 other people in the world have been diagnosed with this). She leads a very physically active life and does not have any ill effects, except she must limit her protein intake. The kidneys help break down and excrete protein, so all kidney patients should be on low protein diets.
check with your doctor first... but yes, in some cases. sometimes people donate one of their kidneys to someone in need of one. ALWAYS check with your doctor first!!
