I had polio as a child, but started swimming at the age of 13 years old, I swam in 2 paralympics in 1964 and 1968 and won 5 gold and 1 silver, with 5 world records. I retired for 38 years, but returned to swimming and joined Masters Swimming Australia in 2006. Since then I have lost 16 kilos, and my blood sugar levels have dropped from 18 to 5.6, so no longer a risk for type two Diabetes. I do not use my legs for swimming- and swim 3 strokes Freestyle, breaststoke, and backstroke.
