Islamic culture influenced Spain in a number of ways.

Architecture in Spain was strongly enhanced by Muslims who brought new building designs. Most popular of these was the Mudejar Style, which was widely copied, especially in Southern Spain after the Muslims were forced out of power. Many of the former Mosques and Palaces built by the Muslims became Cathedrals and Summer Palaces for Spanish royals in the Renaissance period. The Muslims also pioneered more advanced and conservationist irrigation methods, which made it possible for the cities of Spain to grow. Islamic influence also changed the language drastically, giving the more guttural aspects of Spanish and a large number of Arabic loanwords. Artwork, music, traditions - all have been adopted as Spanish culture since the Moorish realm.

Spain, was once a Muslim empire. Although, people may not believe this due to the fact that Spain is an overwhelmingly Roman Catholic country. You see, this isn't new. A lot of religious empires crumble, and get replaced with other majority religions. In my country (Philippines) we've been empires of like four religious. Hindu, Buddhist, Animist, Muslim and then finally Catholic.

So, what happen was that the Moors; a group of Arab Muslims conquered what is now Spain from their former European owners. But the Muslim Empire was destroyed during the Reconquista, by European Spanish thus once again; converting Spain into a Latin and Catholic country-culture. However, the Spanish government didn't destroy ther mosques or anything. In fact, preserved. Many of Spain's most famous churches and cathedrals like the Cordoba cathedral were once important mosques themselves. Also, other Arabic architecture remains standing toady in Spain. The Alhambra Palace, which itself is an Arabic name. Names of Spanish cities like Madrid the capital; are of Arabic origin. The Spanish word "guitarra" for "guitar" is of Arabic origin. I think spelled something like "quihitarra". It's good, usually other governments would just destroy, sack and pillage the architectures.

The Filipino Muslims, are called "Moros" which is what the Spanish called the Moors from Spain!
