Many Admirals and Generals led their servicemen to decisive victories. But, I want to tell you about some real heroes. They are featured in the movie Band Of Brothers.

Major Richard Winters led his men through D Day Invasion, the Battle of Bastogne and Operation Market Garden. They were victorious and full of valor. Major Winters was an excellent commanding officer who believed in his men and went through all the difficulties with them. He encouraged them and never asked them to do what he would not do. He risked his life for his men and for the missions. His men grew to respect and love him dearly. George Patton has always been hailed, but I would rather have a hundred Major Winters over George Patton. Richard Winters

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Major Richard D. Winters (born January 21, 1918) is a former United States Army officer and decorated war veteran. He commanded Company "E", 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, during World War II.

Company E, also known as "Easy Company" (per the contemporary Joint Army/Navy Phonetic Alphabet), parachuted into Normandy in the early hours of D-Day, and fought across France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and eventually into Germany. Later in the war, Winters rose to command the 2nd Battalion. Following the end of hostilities Winters was discharged from the army and returned to civilian life, working in New Jersey.

In 1951, during the Korean War, Winters was recalled to the Army from the inactive list and briefly served as a regimental planning and training officer on staff at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Although issued orders for deployment, he was not sent to Korea. After discharge he worked at a few different jobs before founding his own company and selling farming products.

Winters has been featured in a number of books and was portrayed in the 2001 HBO miniseries Band of Brothers by Damian Lewis. He has been a regular guest lecturer at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He retired in 1997 and lives on a farm in Pennsylvania. Band of Brothers (TV miniseries)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Band of Brothers miniseries details, if at times exaggerated or condensed, the real-life exploits of Easy Company during the Second World War over the course of ten episodes, starting with their jump training at the Currahee training site in Toccoa, Georgia and ending with the capitulation of Germany. The experiences of Major Richard Winters (1918--) are a primary focus, as he attempts to keep his men together and safe. While the series stars a large ensemble cast, episodes generally feature one character prominently, following their particular actions during certain events (for example, the Siege of Bastogne and Operation Market Garden).

As the series is based on real-life events, the fate of the characters is the same as their real world counterparts. Numerous characters either die or sustain injuries, some of which lead to them being sent home or escaping from the hospital to rejoin their comrades at the battlefront. The experiences and the moral, mental, and physical hurdles the soldiers must overcome are central to the story.
