A lot of history was destroyed in Europe and elsewhere.
A whole generation lost a majority of its men.
Political and war understanding comes from knowing ignorance and many would say it was fought poorly, slowly and with gruesome mg gun warfare that we adapted and became stronger, ready for another generation of war.
WWI was first most intentionally bound warfare, we all grew a little.
