He was in the state government in Tennessee, but at one point was not re-elected. He liked the idea of the possible freedom and independence that Texas offered. He soon packed his bags. His last words in Tennessee to the people were... "You may all go to hell, I'm goin' to Texas."

Before I can answer this question I need to get some historical facts straight. The real man was named DAVID CROCKETT. Davy Crockett is a mythical frontiersman who became bigger than life folk hero in several books and a series of almanacs.

The real Crockett was a frontiersman, successful Tennessee politician, and a congressman. In 1835 he went to east Texas some reports have him looking for land to settle, but no one knows why he was at the Alamo the day it was attacked. He was there and he died when it fell. That is the only thing Crockett did in Texas. So, to answer your question he did nothing to help Texas. Just at the wrong place at the wrong time.
