Vietnam War M-48 Patton tanks were equipped with mechanical computers for deflection/elevation and range finding. Mechanical meaning that printed numbers on sheet metal revolved thru window openings, such as odometers on cars used to be made up until the late 1990's when digital odometers began to replace them. Metal GEARS moved the parts prior to the advent of today's computer cells/electronics. The tank's range finder was simply two optical blisters (camera openings) one on each side of the turret, and the TC (Tank Commander-a Sergeant) would physically hand crank (rotate) a wheel as he looked thru the range finder's periscope...when the target's "double" image became one image...he looked up at the number scale in the window of his range finder and saw the number...2400 yards; target was 2400 yards. He physically hand cranked the mechanical computer for deflection & elevation of 2400 into his mechanical computer and the 90mm gun's breech would automatically elevate or depress...adjusting itself for the 2400 yards. Today's M-1 Abram's tank is all digital and computerized. Lasers do the range finding; pushing buttons do all the work. Today's tank can fire accurately while moving, and they can remain on target (the gun can still point at the target while the tank is moving) even when the tank itself is turning in a circle...the turret will rotate remaining on target. In Vietnam, tanks had to stop to fire accurately; and manually rotate the turrent (with power or hand cranked) to keep the cannon aimed at the target.

Technology advances hugely in every war. In WW2 it made better radio, radar, atomic weapons, faster fighters, bigger bombers, and better vehicles.
The British were the first army to try out the tank. It was designed to break the deadlock that occured in the trench war-fare of WW1. When all movement to advance was blocked by deadly and impassable fire power of the previous great war invention, the rapid fire heavy machine gun
Yes they used a covered wagon
Autozone and Advance auto both have gas tank repair kits that can be used to patch the tank.
* IS tank, a Soviet heavy tank in World War II
Before the invention of the tank, no mans land was often impossible to advance through. Machine guns were fired constantly. The men couldn't advance through without getting slaughtered. In battles like the Somme in July 1916, this was greatly apparent. But finally, the armoured tank came into battle. It could advance across the land without getting destroyed/damaged by machine gun fire, and made the idea of trench warfare obsolete. Now, the pace of World War One was finally moving again, at battles like Cambrai in November 1917. By 1918, the first tank-on-tank battles had taken place. The tank would be a part of warfare that would stay, and define the fast movement and 'Blitzkrieg" of World War Two
