US Forces LOVE "Firepower"! The whole war was fought with "More Bang For The BUCK!" And the typical GI was glad of it. But the enemy soon learned to move quickly away from firepower, and to "hug in close" to GI lines when an air strike or artillery was called in. The NVA knew we wouldn't bomb our own positions. The ONLY weapon the Communist's truly feared was the B-52 Stratofortess. They could not run. They could not hide. The only way to avoid destruction from the B-52's was "NOT To Be There In The First Place." One B-52 could unload 108 seven hundred and fifty pound high explosive bombs. And the Stratofortress's normally flew in "cells" of three bombers each. That's 324 high explosive bombs in the amount of time it takes to fall to the ground! For the GI's calling in the strike, it's like experiencing a 9 scale earthquake. When the B-52's left in 1973, the South's days were numbered.
