You have it backwards. The rise of fascism in Italy and Germany contributed to WWII. The leaders of these countries were able to oppress their countrymen and carry out their evil, maniacal agendas and promote their war agendas. Hitler destroyed Germany's constitution and elections in order to carry out his plans. He used fear, killing and deceptive charm to brainwash the Germans. After the war the Germans woke up to the truth of what happened to them, but many still felt an allegience to the Nazis years after the War, even though they were ashamed of the genocide of the Jews and unnecessary deaths of the war.
In Germany it was Hitler who was a Nazi, and in Italy it was Benito Mussolini, the inventor of Fascism.
