My step-daughter had this problem, and due to the boyfriend having horrible credit, she had to break the lease but thankfully did not have to pay a fee. So as long as the management agrees, and the boyfriend has decent credit and the income to support it, not very hard. My experience with apartment managers has not been good though, they are like a wart on the face of humanity, taking whatever opportunity to gouge you that they can. Good luck.
With so many variations on individual names, it's difficult to reduce to a specific figure...
Your lease most likely has a provision against "subletting" your apartment. Any changes in renters must be approved by the landlord, and that includes adding or removing names off the lease. The landlord decides "who" rents from them ... not the tenant.
Yes. anytime you co-sign a lease you are 100% responsible not only for the money of rent but 100% of all other terms. Such as damage, late fees, early termination fees, court costs, etc. for the full duration of the family members tenant status. In a lease or month-to-month the co-signer remains responsible until the tenant is no longer on property. If the co-signer wants to be relieved of future liability, then the co-signer should send a written notice to the landlord, before the lease renews or goes month-to-month, requesting he/she to be removed from the agreement as a co-signer. I would imagine the terms and rules would still apply, even though the lease expired and is now month-to-month. So write a letter and give notice that you are ending your arrangement.

If he is there to visit, ask him to leave. If he refuses, call the police and have him escorted out. If he lives there, you'll have to evict him. However, if the lease is in both names, you cannot do this.
No one can take your name off of your lease but you
Remove yourself from this situation.Contact the landlord, leasing agent, whomever, and inform them you wish to relinquish your residency and opt out of the lease agreement. Bypass the trepidation you may have and explain why. A sound reason is required by the Lessor to consider the options that are available.
