Aircraft wings produce lift by a principle discovered by Bernoulli. The air above the wing is at a lower pressure that the air below essentially socking it up. But is also true that the air beneath the wing strikes it providing a action reaction.

How do airplanes takeoff?

Airplanes need to generate lift in order to take off and fly. The way they do this is to go fast enough on the ground so that the air passing over the wings generates lift in accordance with Bernoulli's principle. When sufficient speed is attained to generate the necessary lift, the plane will fly.

Can airplanes lift off in the rain?

They could, if it wasn't in the severe category

What is the coldest temperature a fighter jet is allowed to operate or take-off in?

At higher elevation, and colder temperatures, airplanes require more runway to lift off the ground. It's the contrary for warm temperatures.

What is the similarities for airplanes and rockets?

They both rise up off the ground

Can you lift yourself off the ground with a fart?

Of course not.

How does a space shuttle lift off the ground so easily?

it dosent, its very hard to get a space shuttle off the ground it uses thaousands of pounds of force to lift it.

Take off without flaps?

Yes, it IS possible for most airplanes to take off without using flaps, but it is usually not done because airplane would need a longer runway or more speed before the wings could create enough lift to get off the ground.

How much lift does it take for an airplane to get off the ground?

In order to lift off the ground, the lift force (the upward force generated by the wings) has to be at least as great as the weight of the aircraft. Lift and weight are opposing forces and are equal in straight and level flight.

Does gravity affects the amount of lift on an airplanes lift?

No it doesn't

How does a blue jay get lift?

blue jays jump off the ground/tree in order for them to get lift

Are rotors used to help lift a helicopter off the ground?

The rotors are used for lift and thrust on a helicopter.

In what way does the take off of a helicopter differ from that of an aeroplane?

While airplanes need to be in motion with enough momentum to create enough airspeed for lift off, helicopters can lift off vertically without any momentum of the aircraft. Both aircrafts need a rotary wing. Helicopter wings are rotary and have the capabilities to change the angle or pitch in order to create more or less lift. Airplanes have rotary and fixed wings.
