If the energy used to produce and transport and use a computer comes from burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas), then carbon dioxide, is emitted. Burning fossil fuels in industry, transport and the generation of electricity, adds CO2 to the atmosphere, producing the enhanced greenhouse effect which is responsible for global warming.
