Use quotation marks, followed by the Book, Chapter, Verse(s) and version inparentheses. APA does not require a listing in the Reference page for classical works, such as The Bible; but if this is for a school paper check with your professor as he/she may require it.

For example "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1 King James Version).

Another example: Mark 5:6 in the Bible, New International Version, it states ".......".

To write an in-text citation in APA style, include the author's last name and the publication year in parentheses within the text. For example: (Smith, 2019). If there is no author, use the first few words of the reference list entry, usually the title. Be sure to also include a corresponding full reference in the reference list at the end of the document.

If you have the APA manual (5th ed), citations in text start on page 207. For one author, at the end of your sentence put (name, year) or example (Walker, 2000). Otherwise The OWL at Purdue is a good source of information.

To reference a book in APA style people should include author's last name, first name, year of publication, title of work: Capital letter also for subtitle, city, state abbreviation, and lastly the publisher. If not in the US, then people should just write the city.

This depends on which edition of the Book of Mormon you are referencing.

To reference a book in basic APA style you would include author's last name, first name; year of publication; Title of work; city, state where published; and the publisher, followed by the specific page numbers you are citing.

So, if you are using the most common edition of the Book of Mormon (the one distributed by the Mormon Church in Salt Lake City, Utah and published in 1981), the reference would look something like this:

Smith, Joseph; 1830; The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ (1981 ed); Salt Lake City, UT; Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; pp (what page/s you are quoting from, if applicable)

It is also appropriate in citing religious scripture to leave the author out, although in the case of the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith is often cited as the author unless the person writing the paper is a Mormon or is writing for a Mormon audience. You may also site Joseph Smith as the translator, rather than the author, by putting (trans.) after his name. This would be most acceptable if you are writing for an audience of both Mormons and non-Mormons.

If you are unsure of which edition of the Book of Mormon you are using, check out the "Related Link" below to see a list of different Book of Mormon editions with their dates, publishers, publisher locations, and other information that you will need for a proper APA citation.
