Mange should not be treated at home since many home remedies can be extremely toxic to your pet. A vet needs to perform a skin scrape to verify which form of mange your pet has as the treatments are different. Demodex mange cannot be transmitted to humans, but sarcoptic mange can be.

I live on the Caribbean island of Dominica in the West Indies and have a local dog. She came to us with a low immune system and gets recurring mange. We have tried the chemical tratment but it was very harsh on her. We also tried neem oil without very good results. I took her to see the vet who works with PAWS the rescue dog charity and was recommended a local treatment.

2 liters of Seawater (or salt water)

½ a Calabash. (Or bottle gourd or opo squash not to be confused with the calabaza) Scoop out the fleshy insides of the calabash and squeeze into seawater

3 fresh limes squeezed and mixed with the seawater & calabash

Strain and coat the dog in the liquid. Do not rinse for 2 days and rinse and repeat the process twice.

Fantastic results! No more mange and she started to grow her shiny new hair back as soon as the treatment finished. Very happy Ocho Dog.

go to the feed&seed or farmers co-op get a 50ml bottle of 1% ivermectin should cost about $30-$50 the oral dose is 1cc or 1ml (they are the same) for every 35lbs every day for 2-3 months will clear it right up assuming its demodex dont use on collies or other herding breeds ive had great success using this formula on several of the bull dogs i raise this is also the same stuf used in heartguard to prevent heartworms at a 1/10cc per 10lbs dosage once a month saves alot of money than buying name brand heartguard also contains pyrantel pamoate wich can also be purchased at the feed store for a dollar or two a pill no need to administer more than once every six months

What do you do if your dog has dogmangeeee mange?

The mange is inherent in all dog breeds in the same way that the measles and/or mumps is inherent in all children, which is why children get inoculated against these diseases at an early age. The mange usually doesn't manifest in a dog with a healthy immune system. Common* mange is almost always brought on by stress and usually found on stray dogs that must fend for themselves and don't have regular nutritious feedings.*There is one form of mange that can be spread from dog to dog, so it's important that any sign of mange be tested by a vet to determine which type the dog carries. Although mange can be treated by a vet to rebuild a dog's immune system, if a dog is turned into the Humane Society with signs of mange, one should know that it will be destroyed.

Can another human give a dog mange bye touching a dog with mange?

Yes. Mange is contagious. Get those dogs to a veterinarian ASAP!AnswerIt depends on if it is demodectic or sarcoptic mange. "Red mange" has been used to describe both. Demodectic mange is a mite that all dogs have-- they receive it from their mother shortly after birth. Sometimes the populations of this mite grow out of control due to immune issues, large amounts of stress, or adolescence. Sarcoptic mange is contagious to both humans and other dogs, but is easier of the two to treat.ANSWER:Demodectic mange is not contagious all dogs carry this mange. But the reason a dog will have an issue with the mange getting out of control is due to another underlying issue, such as yeast. Vets will treat the mange with ivermectin, prednisone and antibiotics when really all you need to do is change your dogs diet. Go to www.milehighbullmastiffs and there is a link to a book that will tell you how to cure this and how to keep your pet as healthy as possible for the rest of it's life.

What home remedies are useful to treat mange?

None that I know of. Home remedies tend to be based on natural/organic/traditional recipes, but unfortunately most of them are basically useless against the parasite that causes mange. Sometimes the recipe, in addition to doing nothing about the infestation, can also cause additional health problems in the animal you are trying to treat.

After a dog is cured from red mange will its partner get it if the dog breeds?

Has your dog been treated for mange mites by your Veterinarian & if so what type did he or she find? If not, you need to take your dogs into your Veterinarian to have them both checked out to see if they have the mange mites and which type? This can only be determined by a Veterinarian taking a deep scraping of skin from the edges of the affected areas and putting in under a Microscope to actually look for the mites. There are 2 different types of Mites, there is the Demodectic (Demodex) mange mite that is normally present in every dog, we even have this type under our eyelids. The dog's immune system normally keeps them under control. When the immune system has been suppressed for some reason such as a sickness, stress, etc. then the demodetic mites are out of control & cause skin damage, loss of hair, etc. They are not contagious and can be treated with your Vet but takes awhile to do. The other mites are sarcoptic mange mites and they are easier to treat but very contagious to humans and other dogs. They are usually referred to as the red mange. You need to know for sure. If it is sarcoptic mange, then you need to bath and dip your dog and your other dog to get rid of all of them. Check yourself too. You need to have your Vet tell you how to treat these. Good luck

Symptoms of mange in cats?

Mange is basically a mite infection/infestation of one type or another with dog hair loss, itching and scratching some of the signs to watch out for. Why does your dog have red itchy bumps on his stomach?

It could be mange. Mange is not an immediate threat but I would suggest taking your dog to the vet soon.

What if your dog is eating himself to death has no fleas What is up?

The dog might have either extremely dry skin which is causing severe itching, OR the dog might be in the developmental stage of having the mange. In either case, the animal should be checked out by a vet to determine whether medicinal treatment is required (mange) or whether the dog just needs a few good lanolin or glycerine baths at home.

Can you cure mange with used motor oil?

No, used motor oil is not a cure for mange. At the very best, you would simply manage to severely poison your dog through dermal absorption of the various chemicals in the used motor oil; at worst, you would lethally poison your dog. Mange is a dermal infestation of exctoparasites called mites. There are several different types of mange, and each one is fairly species specific. Treatment for mange relies on killing these mites - used motor oil will not - and on controlling the underlying issues that allowed a severe mite infestation.
