On the driver side, under the hood. Look back near the firewall down low. There is a red dipstick handle to check fluid level. Take out the dipstick and using a long funnel, add the trans fluid until full.
There is check level fill plug just like a standard tranny.Find the plug and check or fill as necessary.I believe it is at the rear.
on the top of the trans is a red cap it is for filling no dip stick is the problim there is a weired looking bolt look through the right side of the front tire and you see it you have to remove it and fill trans ontill the fluid runs out
you have to go from under the car on the drivers side. there is a dip stick/fill hole
manual transmissions don't have transmission oil !!!
If it's a manual, there is no fill point. If it's an automatic there is a red knob type looking thing directly on top of the tranny that you unscrew and add fluid to.
Dont have one. There is a plug on the bottom of the transmission close to the oil drain plug.Car must be level, remove the plug,if trans fluid runs out its full. If it dont fill it until it does run out.
If it was a manual trans it was a five speed. If it was an auot then it was a three speed with an electronic overdrive. So with the electronic overdrive it was a four speed trans but the overdrive failed frequently and was disabled by many owners.
Drain a little and check the color If its red and thin its Dexron Auto trans fluid If its light to dark brown and thick its GM Syncromesh
Could be plenty of things, clutch not disengaging, synch rings worn, or gear lever linkage worn or misaligned.
As far as i am aware the engines and transmissions are interchangeable between 99-02 cavalier z24's as long as the are both z24 cavaliers.
I had the same thing with my 1995 z24 2.3. When the car was cold it made the grinding noise and i changed the trans oil with ams oil trans oil and its smooth as silk know. Make sure you use manual trans oil
