- Make sure the door is not broken. The rollers that support the door may be broken or bent, making it hard to move.
- Make sure the door is properly on the track. Getting one or more of the rollers off track can add some nasty binding to the movement.
- Make sure the track is clean. Grit and dirt can make it much more difficult to move.
- Lubricate the track. You want to use something that isn't going to bleed into the carpets or get tracked through the house. A rag with WD-40 or similar item can be enough to help.
Keep in mind that the settling of your home over time may have also helped to create the difficulties-- so the problem may or may not be about bent parts but may be the after effects of compression

Vacuum or hose out the area where the door slides. Depending on the door, you could have a little wheel under each side on a runner, or you could have a hard plastic pad. If you have the little wheels, you need to get on your hands and knees and spray a little WD40 on each wheel assy to clean them off and lubricate them. You can get bar soap (not liquid soap) and rub the soap on the bump in the middle of the track where the door moves. This will lubricate the track and make it slide easier. It is also safe for kids and pets. If door gets harder again, use your soap again. Those little bars of soap from motels work great for this.
