First take a flat bladed screwdriver. Approximatley 3 inches long. Then insert into the ignition. With some force (but not too much) take medium sized hammer and hit the end of the screwdriver (but remember not too hard but you should hear a little cracking sound) that means you broke the detent which normally holds the key in the ignition. Move screwdriver in a up and down motion to release the spring tension. Then give screwdriver three more hard taps with hammer. You should hear what sounds like a spring drop into the steering column. A pair of vice grips and remove screwdriver from key slot. Get what is called a Chinese slide hammer (just ask for at your local parts store) screw into ignition slot. With a good amount of force slide the hammer back several times and the ignition cylinder should break free.
Trust me I have have used this technique several times and it works like a charm.
