You need a special tool set. In a pinch you could make one if you had a template for one. Assuming you have the single din deck, you insert the two tools into the thin vertical slots on each side. Its a thin slot about 8mm high and about 2mm wide. Remove the storage bin above then slide in the tool and when it locks, pull gently and it should slide out. I once cut a peice of sheet metal the right size and inserted it, then gently pulled outward with my fingers in the tape deck opening. Do it gently or you can break the faceplate.

∙ 15y agoThere are four horizontal slits on the four corners of a stock GTI, and VW and a few other car audio stores have a square tool which they stick in these slots which lock to the head unit and can then be pulled out.

∙ 15y agoYou need to purchase a set of DIN Pins, from a store like Halfords/Motormania etc.
Usually in the audio section. The pins look like a letter U with notches in the ends.
Inside the car, there are 4 small holes on the sides of the radio fascia. Slot in the pins, push out slightly and pull the radio out.
Once removed from the center console, unplug the 2 connector blocks for power/speakers and then remove the aerial connection.
