Not something you want to do if you don't do it regularly..ebay has reman's for around $180 bucks with $100 of it being core charge...which makes your end price $80. Then you just need to remove the dash and replace the whole unit. Easiest way, rather than trying to change the display on it.

Buick Riviera was created in 1963.
If its anything like my 95 Riv then you can get to it from behind.
catalytic converters are located near the muffler.very difficult to replace
The battery is located under the backseat, Lift the seat up and replace the battery.

That happened to me with my Park Avenue. (I now own a Riviera) If the Riv is the same, then there is a relay for the motor. You would have to find that, and replace it.
What year? Most are rear disc from some where around 79 and on?
