This make is designed with different stabilizer brackets. It may be the rubber with bolts going through it, if not it will be a bar over the center. Remove these and disconnect the black cable from the battery, then red. Good luck! For my 2004 Jeep Liberty, I first opened the fuse box under the hood in front of the battery, close to the front of the jeep. You can see the hinge to the fuse box facing you from the front, so pull the other side up toward you. You will see the small '50' fuse in slot 15. The slots are noted on the underside of the fuse box lid. You may need to gently pull it off with force using pliers, or rock it back and forth with your fingers until it loosens up. Hang onto the fuse, because you will need to replace it later. After you have removed the fuse, remove the black (-) cover from the battery. I used a 10mm socket wrench to unscrew the nut from the bolt holding the connector onto the battery. It should be safe to touch the plastic of the connector leading to the red. Remove the connector from the battery by turning slowly back and forth and lifting up. Repeat this with the red (+) side of the battery too. Make sure both lead wires for the + and - are out of the way. Use the same 10mm socket, potentially with an extender to unscrew the bolt that is behind the battery holding it down. After about 50 turns, it should be free. Pull the bolt and holder right out and store them for afterwards. Lift the battery out of the jeep, but be prepared, because it weighs a lot! If buying a new battery from a store, take the old battery with you. They should first test the battery for free to see if it can hold a charge, and even if they can't they may give you a discount for turning in a used battery. When inserting the battery, remove any handle that may be on it before installing. Put the battery in the same spot in under the hood and wiggle it to ensure it is seated well. Perform the same activities with the same tools in reverse order to what you did to remove the battery: put the battery holder behind the battery, turn the bolt about 50 times to secure the battery, place the red lead onto the + side of the battery and tighten the bolt that holds it on, put the black cable on the - side, replace the cap for the - side of the battery, replace the fuse, shut the fuse box tightly, and start the jeep up. You may need to let the jeep run several minutes to ensure the on-board computer has no problems with running the engine, and you will likely have to reset the time and radio stations on your jeep.
