pre cats or main cat? most likely the pre cats, which are part of the exhaust manifold. both have to come off from underneath. front is not too bad, remove the "Y" pipe first, then it comes out. the rear one will take much longer. you have to remove the entire exhaust, and a crossmember that the exh pipe goes over. the pre cat oxygen sensor is really hard to get at, you will need a couple of extensions and universals. you can just barely get it out by turning and twisting, if not, try removing the heat shield. if that dont work, you will have to pull the right side axle and jack shaft. i have always been able to get it out without removing the axle or the heat shield.
try muffler shop or auto parts store, can be bought used on eBay

Not unless it is clogged or damaged. You cannot run the car without a converter if that is what you are asking. It is illegal and the engine will not run properly with the converter removed.

Where could I find diagram for 2003 catalytic converter on a Mazada 6
The carbureted 86-93 Mazda trucks do have a catalytic converter off the exhaust manifold, whereas the fuel injected version does not. If you have the carbed version, and you put on a header (like a pacesetter) to replace the exhaust manifold, then you will get rid of 1 catalytic converter.
The 2002 Mazda MPV has two flex pipes that comes from manifold. One of these flex pipes comes with the catalytic converter. I had it changed at Speedy and it cost around $800.00 cost, labour, taxes incl.
