Tractor engine

There is no quick cure, as the engine is worn out. Have it rebuilt.

turn the engine off.

if it's black smoke you're running a bit rich, if it's blue smoke, give up, if it's white smoke in a diesel that means a sign of bad injector(s).

Many farm and non-highway diesel powered vehicles and apparatus also use non-taxable red dyed diesel fuel, which may also be a source of the smoke. This is one measure intended to prevent red dyed fuel from being used for on-highway commercial applications (which is taxable).

_____________

A couple of common things with tractors is 1. that they idle a lot. When a gas or diesel engine idles, even with a new engine fuel will gradually seep down the cylinder walls and dilute oil. Of course with more wear on the engine, that seepage tends to increase. That fuel in the oil will thin the oil and cause smoke.

And 2., tractors are often neglected when it comes to servicing and changing oil. Extended time on oil changes also causes thin oil and the smoking.

A rich running gas engine or running with the choke partly pulled will greatly increase the amount of fuel dilution. Check those.

Also, as an earlier post said, it could be just worn. But, I've seen tractor engines smoke some for 20 years or more. Old tractors just didn't have the friction reducing components and oils we do now days. You may try heavier oil or add STP Oil Treatment or a similar one to prolong your engines life a bit.
