Kenwood car stereos have protect mode and sometimes it gets turned on. If someone wants to turn it off, they need to remove the stereo and unplug different wires to determine which one is causing the protect mode to be on.
the most comen problem is blown speaker wire. disconect all ur wires and start rehooking them up one by one and check to see "protect" gos away. if it does not then take it in
go to source change the radio to standby mode.. then hold the menu button then scroll to demo mode.. once its there push the volume knob in until it beeps and says demo off. i had the same exact radio and the same exact problem.

Screen should show STANDBY. * Press and hold Menu button for two seconds. * Use the joystick control to scroll up or down until you see DEMO ON. * Press the joystick in for two or three seconds. Turn the ignition to the on position but do not start the engine. Leave it sitting like that for one hour. The radio should then switch out of safe mode and allow you to enter the correct code.
Turn the radio on. Press SET button. This puts the radio in (Program) mode. Press SEL button. This puts the radio in (Set Hours) mode. Press TUNE button up or down to adjust hours. Press SEL button. This puts the radio in (Set Minutes) mode. Press TUNE button up or down to adjust minutes. Press SEL button again to return to normal mode. Pressing the SEL button after this changes the display to (Radio Frequency) display or (Time) display.
Press display twice.
