"its" is a possessive pronoun that refers to the subject of your sentence.

example:

the chair is broken, its legs are uneven.

"Its" is different from "it's" which is an abbreviation of it is. (putting 2 words together)

example using it's:

The legs of the chair are uneven, it's broken.

However, if you are referring to a subject that has a gender like a person or animal, 'its" would not be correct. you would use His or Her instead.

In Biology, a cyst is a spore or protective capsul that an Ameoba or other organism in kingdom protista, phylum Sarcodina forms in life-threatening conditions. Sentence example: After Mark stopped adding water to his sealed culture, the ameoba proteus formed a cyst. Another definition for a cyst, is a "sac" filled with fluid that can grow on a human and get infected.

Sentence example: She was worried that the overly large pimple was a cyst, and got a check-up at her doctor's office.
