check the kennel club the dog is registered in. www.akc.org is the American Kennel Club's website. If the dog's from that kennel club, you follow the links to the pedigrees. You should be able to order it if you have the registration information for your dog.

If you have not been provided AKC registration papers for your puppy from the breeder or you have acquired an older dog you believe to be a purebred you can register him/her with an AKC Indefinite Listing Privelege (ILP) registration. The dog must be neutered or spayed for this but can compete in AKC competitons other than conformation showing. You can find requirements and forms at AKC.org.

Pedigree papers are given to puppies after they have been Kennel Club registered by their breeder. Puppies can only be registered if they are 100% pure-bred, are a recognised breed and if both of their parents were also Kennel Club registered. If you were not given pedigree papers by the breeder when you bought your Dog then it is unlikely that your Dog is Kennel Club registered and so it wouldn't be able to get papers. If your Dog is Kennel Club registered but you weren't given or lost the papers, for a fee you can usually contact the Kennel Club that your Dog is registered with and get a new copy.

Only pedigree/purebred dogs have papers, and the dog must be registered with a Kennel Club e.g. American Kennel Club, English Kennel Club. Not all purebreds have papers either, a puppy can only have papers if BOTH of it's parents themselves had pedigree papers. Unless your dog had two purebred parents of the same breed that each had pedigree papers, then you cannot get papers for your dog. Kennel Club registration papers and pedigree certificates should be given to you by the breeder if your dog is pedigree/Kennel Club registered. Papers cannot be purchased and so it is not likely that you will be able to retrieve them (if the breeder forgot to give you them etc.).

Your dog has to come with them from the breeder. If she or he doesn't come with papers, she is not a pure blooded breed, but that's okay! Though she or he can't preform in dog shows, all dogs are wonderful besides that!

If the mother is a mutt, you can not get legitimate pedigree papers from any of the reputable Kennel Club Registries such as AKC, UKC, ADBA, ect. You can however get companion dog performance registrations on your puppy through AKC, UKC and ADBA once they are spayed or neutered. These limited registrations will allow you and the puppy to participate in companion sports and fun classes with your dog.

No you can't. Both perents have to be registered because both of the parents names and registration numbers have to be on the puppies registration papers.

In order to register your puppy you would need proof that both it's dam and sire are purebred.

The AKC (American Kennel Club) does NOT issue papers to mongrels. A dog must be a pure breed to receive papers showing a dog's lineage.

What can i do i have not received papers for my puppy and i was told that it would only take a couple days?

If the puppy was purchased at a pet store, contact the store to see why the papers were not provided. If there is a problem that cannot be resolved, contact the Better Business Bureau in your area. If you have received nothing in writing, only a verbal promise that pedigree papers would be provided, there is nothing you can do except to rely on the honesty of the person who sold the puppy. If you can prove that papers were to be supplied and you have not received them within a reasonable time, the final step would be court action if you feel it is worth the expense of trying to obtain the papers. It is also possible that no pedigree papers exist for your puppy and the promise by the seller was fraudulent.

What does it mean to buy a puppy without papers is it bad any consequences?

A puppy w/o papers might come from a puppy mill, where dogs are bred with no concern for the mother's health, the genetic suitability of the parents, or the nutritional needs of the dogs. They are often sickly. Or maybe not a puppy mill but simple cluelessness. Doesn't change the outcome much.

Are ckc dogs guaranteed to not come from a puppy mills?

Absolutely no! Anyone can breed a dog with CKC papers, just like with AKC papers. It is up to you the potential puppy buyer to check out the person you are purchasing a puppy from. Do NOT buy from pet shops as most get their pups from puppy mills. Purchase a pup from a ethical breeder or adopt one from your local Animal Shelter or Pound.

Do purbreds or mixed breeds come from puppy mills?
