The cervix is normal until a woman starts going into labor.

During ovulation the cervix is soft, high, open and wet. Around thetime of menstruation the cervix is low and hard. I've heard OB/GYNsmaking this analogy when referring to a pr…egnant vs. non-pregnantcervix: A non-pregnant cervix feels like a hard, unripe piece offruit, while a pregnant cervix is more like an almost over-ripeplum. It becomes very tender and engorged with blood, especiallyearly on in pregnancy. In the early stages of pregnancy you maynotice that your cervix will rise a bit and become softer, but thetiming of this happening will vary from woman to woman. You may seethe change in your cervix shortly before your period is due or youmay not feel this for several weeks. As the pregnancy progresses youwill probably have an increase in vaginal discharge, but thecervical mucous is fairly minimal during pregnancy. Some women maynotice a change in their cervix in very early pregnancy butcervical position is not a good sign of pregnancy. That is becausethe cervix changes not only from woman to woman but from day to dayand could even be different in the same woman at different times ofthe day. I would recommend to check your cervix right after yourperiod ends and check it every day, at the same time, in the sameposition. That way you know how your cervix is suppose to feel atwhat point during your cycle and if it doesn't feel that it'ssuppose to you could use that to help you determine pregnancy. Fora woman that doesn't check her cervix regularly I would say it'snext to impossible to determine if she's pregnant or not bychecking it. Your cervix should be high just like during ovulation, exceptclosed. It will also still feel soft, more like lips. Unless you'vebeen checking your cervix consistently there is almost no way totell where you are in your cycle through this method. Remember towash your hands before you check, but other than that, you shouldhave no problems with infection. Just don't get your hopes up thatyou'll be able to detect pregnancy through your cervical position, especially if you haven't been monitoring it's position already.
Answer . No. It becomes high and hard.. Answer . \nTowards the end of pregnancy it may appear to move backwards as the baby's head comes down in front of it. But as yo…u get ready for labor it will soften and flatten and start to open (Effacement and dilation)
\n. \n Answer \n. \n. \nThe cervix is always closed, it only starts opening towards the end of pregnancy just befor you go into labor.\n. \nThe mucus plug forms somew…here between 8 and 12 weeks.\n. \n. \n. \nThat completely is not true. The cervix is always open, only a tiny bit, or else sperm would have no way of entering. There is a tiny opening of the cervix at all times for sperm to enter, and for you to pass blood during a period. Once fertilization takes place, the cervix is "sealed" by what is known as a "mucous plug". During the early stages of labor, the mucous plug comes out which is one of the first signs a woman is truly in active labor. Once that happens, the cervix begins the dilate once contractions start being more persistent and close together, up until the baby is born if it is a normal pregnancy. If the cervix does not dilate, there are a number of things that can be done by a doctor to help the cervix to dilate. If everything fails, a C-Section will take place to deliver the baby. After birth, it takes a while for the cervix to completely close up again and it is extremely easy to get pregnant. Also, it is very easy for bacteria to get up into the cervix and cause infection, so all doctors recommend you do not take a bath or get in a jacuzzi for at least 6 wks. Also, if you dilate early way before time for the baby to be born, which is what I did, they also recommend (if your water breaks prematurely) to not sit down in a bath because bacteria can go up into your cervix and cause infection, not only in your uterus, but it may also spread to the baby.
A cervix does not necessarily feel different during early pregnancy. A firm feeling cervix that has drop lower to the usual position may be an indicator for a pregnancy, but t…his may also be the case during common menstrual cycles and might not be related to a pregnancy at all.
Increase estrogen levels. Hyperplasia d/t Estrogen cause glandular tissue stimulation. Endocervical gland formation of mucous plug- closes cervix(Operculum/Mucous plug prevent…s organisms from entering uterus actsas a barrier-bloody show. (Expelled when dilation begins) Increased vascularity causes Goodell's sign (softening of cervix)and Chadwick sign (blood circulation makes it bluish, purple ordeep colored discoloration of mucous membranes of the cervix, vagina and vulva)
for most women high and soft but some women already have a low lying cervix prior to falling pregnant. So High or Low & Soft.
It shouldn't, in pregnancy a cervix should be closed if your cerix was open more that 2.5 mm they would consider you for a 'stitch' to ensure that the cervix is closed and the… baby isn't born early. My advice is go to the doctor and tell them your concern there are tests they can do and sooner rather than later is better.
During early pregnancy your cervix should not .....repeat not be open (dilated) at all. Later in your third trimester you may become 1-2cm dilated, this is a sign that labor i…s near.

The cervix sits higher, it becomes thicker and develops a bluish color, very early in pregnancy. It eventually opens so that the baby can proceed through the birthing cana…l and out of the mother's body.
ur cervix goes very high and very hard and closed wen u find out ur pregnant reach up there....this how it wass for all of my kids...good luck..
i guess its never totally closed?. so i should say in early pregnancy the cervix is "closed".

I'm actually trying to find out the same thing. I'm going through a tremendous amount right now and would love some positive results
id really depends. when the cervix opens, it is called dialating. for example, i was due April 19th. however, march 29th i was dialated to 3 cm. in my case, i had my baby that… day because he was "frank breech" so they are to do a c-section. but some girls go weeks being 1-3 cm dialated, it just depends, and usually happens the closer you approach your due date :) hope this was helpful!
