According to the state's FAQ: Q. How long will I have had to work to be monetarily eligible for benefits? "You must have wages in at least two quarters of your qualifying period (base period). The base period is the first four quarters (12 months) of the last five completed quarters from the date your claim is filed. For example, if your claim was filed effective October 5, 2002 your base period would the 12 month period beginning July 1, 2001 and ending June 30, 2002. The total of your base period earnings must equal or exceed one and one-half times your highest quarter earnings. The average of your two highest quarters must equal or exceed $1157.01." You had to have had wages in the last 2 quarters of your base period (which is the first 4 quarters of the lasr 5 completed quarters). The total earnings in that base period had to equal or exceed 1 1/2 times the highest quarter's earnings with the average of the 2 highest quarters equal or greater than $1,157.01. Unemployment insurance law varies from state to state. However, in most states you must earn a defined amount of wages, typically referred to as "bona fide" wages as defined by the state's formula for separation to be considered and that employer potentially liable for benefits. You must also have worked long enough to be monetarily eligible for benefits as defined by the formula used by the state where you file.

Can you draw unemployment while you student teach?

Usually, in order to draw unemployment, you have to be actively looking for work, and be able to work should you find any. Your student teaching load probably would keep you from being able to work, and your status as a student is just icing on the "no unemployment for you" cake. Substitute teachers often are allowed to draw unemployment for days when they don't work, on the grounds that they're actually available to work, it's just that no one needed a substitute that day. But student teachers... no. You could try contacting your local unemployment office to verify; worst case is they make fun of you.
