It depends upon her activity level and basal metabolic rate (BMR). Additionally, the number would vary depending on whether she is trying to maintain, gain, or lose weight (and, if gain or lose, what amount over what period of time).

If you are very sedentary, meaning very little exercise, you would need approximately 1300 calories a day. But the fact that you are young and most likely are still growing and/or being active as well, you may consume up to 2000 calories a day.

Everyone is an individual in the way that they metabolize calories. But with more activity everyone will need more calories unless you are trying to lose weight. It is much easier to add weight than to lose it.

Believe me, I know so well. When I was young, I was very thin. My brothers made fun of me because I didn't have large breasts etc. I was determined to gain weight. I did and I mainly gained weight in my hips and thighs. Then they began calling me lard butt. I have had to battle with 20 lbs up and down the scale from this ever since.

Eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables when you can. People don't need as much meat as we have been taught in the past. They add hormones and antibiotics to the meat that we consume and it is not good for you. It causes us to have weight gain, menstrual irregularities and hormonal imbalances. Try to eat a lot of legumes such as beans-a variety of beans, carrots, broccoli, fresh salads, fresh ocean fish. Ingest coconut oil, olive oil and flax oil or expeller pressed grape seed oil. Take a very good liquid vitamin supplement, especially with the B vitamins if you can afford it. This will give you energy, help with regularity and keep you healthy in so many ways. Stay away from hydrogenated fats like french fries or anything that is fried at fast food restaurants. Even if they start out with good oil they keep re-heating it until it turns rancid and adds toxins to our foods.

Limit white flour and sugar, thus limiting breads, pastries, candy and soda. Drink lots purified of water. Be careful with plastic bottles, do not let them sit in the sun very long. Keep it refrigerated until you can consume it. If you can have a good water filter at home, you may use that most of the time.

Concentrate on being healthy and not so much how small or large you are. Of course if you are noticeably overweight and can't get into your clothes, that is when you know that you need to cut back.

Pray hard that God will help you to love HIM, yourself, and others and it will be much easier to use self control because you will want to be healthy so you can be useful to everyone, including yourself.
