How To Whiten Teeth

There is a vast array of methods available today to help people whiten their teeth. When choosing a method, people will need to take several things into consideration such as how much they want to spend, how badly their teeth may be stained, how thick their teeth are, and how healthy their teeth are. The cost of getting teeth whitened varies widely depending on the method people choose.

Where Can People Get Their Teeth Whitened?

People can get their teeth whitened either in a dentist's office or a beauty parlor. A small plastic tray containing peroxide gel will be placed on the person's teeth. In some cases, a mold of the teeth may be necessary for the tray to match the individual's mouth. Sometimes, rather than using a tray, the dentist or beautician will apply the gel directly onto the teeth and use a laser to activate it.

People may also choose to purchase a home whitening kit, as they are much more affordable than having a dentist or beautician whiten the teeth. Where to Buy Tooth Whitening Kits

Consumers can find tooth whitening kits in many grocery stores, department stores, discount stores, drug stores, online or through one's dentist. These stores offer a broad range of oral products including mouthwash, toothpaste and teeth whitening kits. For people, who have mild stains on their teeth, they may simply need to use toothpaste and mouthwash. However, for those people, who have dark stains, they may want to consider purchasing a tooth whitening kit.

How to Use Tooth Whitening Kits

Most teeth whitening kits come in a gelled plastic sheath. People will need to press this sheath onto their teeth, and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Some kits have a plastic tray, rather than a sheath, and peroxide gel to put into the tray. People need to press this tray onto their teeth just like the sheath, and again, leave it on for about 20 minutes. Although both methods seem to be just as effective as one another, trays do not slip around in people's mouths as sheaths often do. People can repeat this process 2 or 3 times a year, and use whitening toothpastes in between to maximize results.

Yellowing teeth can indeed interfere with appearance and reduce self-confidence. But don't worry, because there are several ways to whiten your teeth naturally that you can easily try to do yourself at home, including:

1. Maintain dental and oral hygiene

The main step you can take to whiten your teeth naturally is to maintain good oral and dental hygiene . Brushing your teeth regularly , at least twice a day, can help prevent and reduce the buildup of stains that cause teeth to look yellow.

After brushing your teeth, you are also advised to clean the remaining food left between your teeth using dental floss . If necessary, use a mouthwash for maximum results.

2. Brush your teeth with baking soda

Brushing your teeth with a paste made from baking soda has long been believed to be efficacious for naturally whitening teeth. Therefore, not a few toothpaste products use baking soda as one of the main ingredients.

In addition to buying toothpaste products that contain baking soda , you can also make your own at home, by mixing one teaspoon of baking soda with two teaspoons of water.

3. Consuming fruit with malic acid content

Malic acid is a natural substance in fruit that is claimed to be able to whiten and reduce stains on teeth. To get the benefits of this malic acid, you can eat several types of fruit, such as strawberries , watermelon, and apples.

In addition to eating fruits that contain malic acid, you can try pineapple , Oranges, and papaya which are also claimed to be effective in whitening teeth naturally.

4. Gargle with vegetable oil ( oil pulling )

Gargling with vegetable oils , such as coconut oil, can also be your choice to whiten teeth naturally. The reason is, coconut oil contains lauric acid which can reduce inflammation in the mouth and kill bacteria that cause plaque buildup and tooth decay.

If you are interested in trying it, you can gargle or do oil pulling with 1 tablespoon of coconut oil for 15-20 minutes every day. However, you still need to be careful not to ingest the coconut oil.

When you're done gargling, throw the coconut oil in the trash and clean your mouth with a toothbrush as usual.
