The United Kingdom was formed by the merger of the Kingdom of Scotland and the Kingdom of England (which at the time included Wales). Because of Scotland's main roll playing in this merger several things within Scotland remain different from that of the rest of the UK. Such as having its own soccer team. Others things that are differenet include the legal system and the existence of a Scottish Parliament with limited powers.
