By askingthis question, you have highlighted an anomaly in the Book of Genesis. The ancients did not fully understand the sun as the sole source of daylight and therefore of night and day. This is evidenced in Genesis 1:16, where the sun was created to rule the day, not to make the day possible. As far as the early Jews were concerned, the light of day was created on day one, and the evening and the morning were the first day.

Those are two different subjects.
According to tradition, God created the sun on the fourth day of Creation. The light of the first three days did not come from the sun (Rashi commentary). It was a light that had no physical source; what people might today describe as a "white hole" (look it up).
