More than likely the child will be placed in the biological fathers custody in the event of your death.

If the father is not in the child's life it will be best to have him relinquish his parental rights so in the event of such accident the child can legally reside with your family.

Can you share joint custody with a family member?

No. Only parents are granted custody of their children by a court order. You cannot assign custody to a non-parent nor will the court. When a party other than the parent gets "custody" of a child it is done via a guardianship and must be obtained through a court. The person who requests the guardianship is appointed the child's legal guardian, the child is deemed the guardian's ward, and the case will remain under the jurisdiction of the court. There can be no guardian appointed if a parent has custody.No. Only parents are granted custody of their children by a court order. You cannot assign custody to a non-parent nor will the court. Does the husband of a grandmother have any rights to the grandchild?

The husband of a grandmother is often the grandfather. In general, however, grandparents do not have rights to a grandchild unless the parents are dead or legally incapacitated and the grandparents are the closest competent relatives. Even then, a court must first assign custody to the grandparents, it does not come automatically.

Will a married couple be stationed together in the air force?

In all likelihood, yes. It is the Air Force's policy to make every attempt to assign married military members to the same installation. If that is not possible, they can assign the members to installations that are as close to each other as possible.

Why is child support and child custody so unfairly separated It's like saying you pay have to pay for the car but you don't get to drive it?

They're not "unfairly separated." You participated in the creation of a human being. It is now your responsibility to provide for that human being until it becomes an adult. Courts generally assign custody based on what they think is best for the child. If you disagree, you can always petition to have it changed. They assign child support based on the relative ability of the parents to pay. The economics and culture tends to work out that the mother gets custody and the father pays most of the child support. That's not "unfair", or at least it's no more "unfair" than the fact that women tend to be paid less than men doing the exact same job. If you're not complaining about the one, you don't get to complain about the other.
