She looked like her dead mother, and he wished to marry her. She refused and ran away from home. Her father's obsession did not subside, and he followed her. When he found her he ordered her to come home with him, and marry him. She refused and he ordered her death. Her companions protected her, and they were struck down. The solders, though, were afraid to kill Dymphna because of her beauty. Her father, driven by his insanity, killed her himself. St. Dymphna is also the patron saint incest victims, and of runaways.
