The US Constitution forbids the use of any law based on religion. Sharia is a code of Islamic Law based on the teachings of Mohamed. Just as the Constitution forbids government to enforce the Cannon Law of the Roman Catholic Church, it also forbids the government to enforce Sharia.

Of course, individuals or groups in the US could decide to follow Sharia as a matter of personal conscience. However, if they attempted to enforce those sanctions in Sharia that result in personal injury or death they would be in violation of civil law and subject to prosecution and punishment by the civil authorities.

Yes - Sharia is practiced in the US and in every place where Muslims live.

This is a religious law that knows no borders but lives in the soul of the individual believer.

All Christians have the core elements of Sharia in the 10 commandments that we share with the Muslims. We may not share their devotion but we know that "Though shall not steal" and admit we should not do it. If you abide to the 10 commandments, you practice Sharia.

But do not mix this with the punishment that some people - "Judges" impose on those that violate the law. If you are caught by the police stealing, you may end in jail in the US. In Saudi Arabia they read the Old Testament and take it literary: they chop of a finger or a hand as the Good Book says. The Old Testament is in the Koran, and to a Muslim, the judge will be the priest or "Mullah". And with them, it is like with everyone, some things will remain between yourself and the Almighty.

Sharia guides all aspects of Muslim life including daily routines, familial and religious obligations, and financial dealings. It is derived primarily from the Quran and the Sunna--the sayings, practices, and teachings of the Prophet Mohammed. So it is indeed practiced by Muslims, not just in the US, but around the world. In the sense that sharia is the law of the land, then no, it is not.

Sharia is an immense corpus of law, ranging from contracts to penal codes and everything in between. There are a number of things for which Sharia Law is legal in the United States, but in all of these cases (usually relating to family law), both parties must agree to implementation of Sharia Law and the particular provisions cannot violate key precepts of US Law. The Sharia Penal Codes, which are rather notorious around the world, are not legal in the United States.

Why is the sharia law is out of date in western society?

personally i don't feel that the shariah law is out of date in the western society as Muslims still practice and follow their lives by it. However some say that the shariah law is out of date in the western society as women are now in-dependent and are not punished if they leave their partner as opposed to how it would be if the shariah law was followed through in the western society.
