South Africa is one of the wealthiest countries in Africa, though there are some areas, particualry the black townships , where there is still widespread poverty left over from the Apartheid era. There have been some improvements though.
Africa is rich in some Natural Resources and in manpower. Many African countries (there are over 40 of them) are poor financially, or seriously in debt to the developed nations. You cannot generalise about Africa, just as you cannot generalise about the American continents.
